Birthday Gifts for Dad

Today is my birthday again. Another lucky year.

I will probably spend the evening counting my blessings rather than my candles. While this sounds really cheesy as I type, I mean it. After picking up my daughter from ballet, I will meet my wife and son at the kids' school. We will go to Whole Foods for dinner so that everyone can choose their own dinner and I can eat a whole chicken with my hands.  Afterwards, we can shop for lunches. 

I have wanted to parent as long as I can remember. Today I also remember the families who are not as fortunate, whether they must visit gravesites or old memories.

Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

The second grade classes visited Oakland's Middle Harbor Shoreling Park for a science field trip.

I have included 27 pretty good photos of the cold windy day.  Usually the weather is better. The view is always awesome! If not for the geese, this would be one my all-time favorite parks.  If you have time, visit the East Bay Regional Park site for more details.

The Arctic Club in Seattle by Hilton

Earlier this month, I visited Seattle, Washington for a journalism education conference. I stayed downtown at a DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton.

The Arctic Club Seattle - Images by bryan farley

The historic property is unusual for a DoubleTree. The property retains much of its historic charm when it was The Arctic Club. Next time I visit, I will enjoy the second floor lounge and watch billiards.
